Manchester United fans happy to have Luke Shaw back

Jose Mourinho was always going to use Wayne Rooney's testimonial as a proper pre-season friendly, especially after their disastrous trip to China saw their game against Manchester City cancelled.

That meant there was no room for appearances from club legends and it also meant Rooney was taken off after just 55 minutes.

Yes, Mourinho had a full strength side out at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David de Gea and Anthony Martial. There was also a place in the starting XI for Luke Shaw.

Manchester United fans would have been eager to see how the left-back got on against the Toffees. He hasn't played at Old Trafford in almost a year after suffering a horrific leg break against PSV Eindhoven last year.

Considering the club forked out £30million to sign him from Southampton, there were a few nerves over whether he could rekindle his very best form after such extensive physiotherapy work. But it quickly became clear that there would be no problem.

The England international was very good in a 45-minute performance, even drawing comparisons with a young Gareth Bale for his flying runs down the wing. We wouldn't go that far, but the signs are promising that Shaw will pick up where he left off next season.

Take a look at some of the reaction below:
