Jeremy Menez will not forget his debut for Bordeaux in a hurry.

The 29-year-old only moved back to France from AC Milan two days ago but was thrown straight into the mix against Lorient on Wednesday.

Shortly after donning his new team's shirt for the first time, Menez was forced off the pitch with a horrific injury.

As you will be able to see for yourself in the image below, the Frenchman's ear looked in a horrendous state from what must have been a freak incident.

Details about what exactly caused Menez to lose such a considerable chunk of his ear remain sketchy but initial pictures show the forward being trod on and left with a very nasty wound as a result.

Bordeaux have since released a statement to provide an update on the progress of their new star signing.

The announcement, as made on the club's website, translates to: "Jeremy Menez had an ear cut off during the encounter face to Lorient which his premature exit in the 77th minute.

"The medical staff will take a surgical opinion to whether to operate on the new Bordeaux player."

The gruesome nature of such an injury will be the last thing Menez would have been expecting on his debut and we wish him a very speedy recovery.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward has been a reported transfer target for Arsenal in the past and signed a three-year contract at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux earlier this week.

Not that Menez will care too much right now, but his new teammates were able to hold on to a 3-1 victory against their Ligue 1 rivals.
