Liverpool have just beaten Barcelona by four goals to nil.

No, that’s not a misprint. Liverpool, you know, the club that finished eighth in the Premier League and lost two finals, have just thrashed the greatest team in the 21st century.

Ok, so it was only a friendly. But the manner in which the Reds dismantled their Spanish opponents at Wembley Stadium certainly provides an eye-opener ahead of the new Premier League season.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea will have watched Jurgen Klopp’s side cruise to victory with some trepidation. The Reds will ruthless in attack and defending incredible well, limited Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to scraps.

Sadio Mane, who looked mightily impressive, a Javier Mascherano own goal, Divock Origi and Marko Grujic sealed the win as Liverpool prepare to play Arsenal in the opening league game in eight days time.

Liverpool fans packed into Wembley to watch their new and improved team and they left in hysterics. Just check out the reaction below.

New signings flourished

For the first time, we saw Klopp’s ‘Gegenpressing’ style to its true capability. The German, who arrived last October, is in the midst of his first pre-season at Anfield, and it’s clear that he’s needed these months to truly imprint his style.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss will have been delighted with what he saw from his new signings, Georginio Wijnaldum and Ragnar Klavan included, while Origi might just have clinched his spot as Liverpool’s first-choice striker.
