Shelton Benjamin has confirmed that he won't be returning to WWE anytime soon because of a recent shoulder injury.

The former Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion has been advertised in recent weeks returning to WWE in order to represent Shane McMahon's and Daniel Bryan's SmackDown LIVE, however, that now won't be the case.

In a series of tweets, Benjamin confirmed that his return to WWE will have to be delayed so that he can fully recover from his shoulder injury.

The 41-year-old will be undergoing surgery to repair a torn rotator in his shoulder, and that means he is in no fit state to wrestle.

It's believed the records came up regarding his shoulder when he was going through his medical checks in Pittsburgh.

Benjamin was released by WWE six years ago back in 2010, but following on from the brand split, WWE officials have been keen on re-signing former talent.

Benjamin isn't the only name linked with a return, with Carlito, MVP, and Mickie James just three reportedly in talks with WWE.

Since leaving, Benjamin has been on the independent circuit and has also been part of Ring of Honour and New Japan Wrestling, but he was all set to make his return to WWE.

However, this is now not the case after the wrestler sent out the following five tweets.

It's not yet understood what will happen now for Benjamin and what the future holds for him in terms of a WWE return, but it comes as a huge blow to both himself, and the SmackDown LIVE brand.
