So far we have had 69 goals from just 20 games, including a 5-4 thriller and an 8-0 capitulation. Brazil men's team themselves did not get off to the best of starts, drawing 0-0 with South Africa.

One player to particularly disappoint was Barcelona star, Neymar, who failed to show his world-class quality for the host nation.

Of the 69 goals, one stands out in particular.

China women were 1-0 up against South Africa with just three minutes of the game remaining when Tan Ruyin picked up the ball just inside the opposition half a struck a sweet, right-footed shot which, dipped over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Despite the goalkeeper's best attempts to get back and tip it over the bar, the best she could do was fingertip it off the underside of the crossbar and across the line.

The 2-0 result for China sees them occupy second place in their group alongside South Africa, Brazil and Sweden.

In their opening game, they lost 3-0 to the hosts and will therefore require to avoid defeat against the Swedes to progress to the quarter-finals.

That game will be on Tuesday at the Mane Garrincha Stadium.
