Well crash out of Europe

Motherwell's first European match at Fir Park for 13 years turned into a huge anti-climax as Nancy scored twice inside the opening quarter to secure their place in the UEFA Cup group stages with a 3-0 aggregate win.

Marc-Antoine Fortune followed up Benjamin Gavonon's free-kick to score in the 18th minute, and the same free-kick taker's intended cross found the net five minutes later to leave Motherwell needing four goals.

Other than a decent spell just after the break, Mark McGhee's men rarely looked like getting one as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat on the night.
