Barnsley manager Simon Davey says the club have to "move on" following the departure of star midfielder Brian Howard.

The 25-year-old moved to Championship rivals Sheffield United on Thursday night after refusing to discuss a new contract at Oakwell. His departure comes as a huge blow to Davey, who is under pressure following a poor start to the season, but the Tykes manager is determined to look forward.

He told the club's official website: "He (Howard) has been a fantastic servant to this club but it is time to look to the future."

He added: "We have to look after what we have here. It is history now. I have no sympathy for a player who does not want to play for this club.

"I have always had a fantastic relationship with Brian but we now have to move on. We have to look to the future and that starts for Barnsley Football Club on Saturday."
