Undefeated middleweight Tommy Langford will challenge Chris Eubank Jr for the British Middleweight Championship after promoter Frank Warren today won the purse bid to stage the fight.
The fight doesn't have a date or venue yet, but the Birmingham-based fighter earned the opportunity after a hard-fought points decision over Lewis Taylor back in March saw him climb the WBO world rankings.
It's a terrible fall from grace for Eubank Jr who thought he had a mega-fight with Gennady Golovkin in the bag. It was speculated that the British middleweight champion could fight on the undercard of the Kell Brook/Golovkin fight, but those rumours have proved unsubstantiated thus far.

His relationship with Eddie Hearn appears somewhat strained after the missed opportunity and Warren has wasted little time giving the 26-year-old a platform to perform.
He now has a hungry competitor waiting in the Baggies Bomber, a boxer who believes he can take strength from Billy Joe Saunders' success over Eubanks Jr, who dealt the champ the one and only loss in his 24 fights.
“I’m delighted Frank Warren has won the purse bid and that I’ll be fighting for the famous Lonsdale Belt,” said Langford. “I need a scalp of his magnitude to project my profile and Eubank is one of the biggest names on the scene at the moment.
“We’ve sparred in the recent past and, though you can’t take too much into that, I know what he does well and what he doesn’t do well and believe my style exploits his. Sure, Chris Jr is dangerous but Billy Joe Saunders exposed his limitations with his quality and movement.
"I know I’ve got the tools to beat him, I hope he doesn’t do his usual when it comes to a big threat and vacate the title.”
Langford is certainly confident and Eubank Jr will have to fend off the challenger if he wants to keep his name in the hat for big fights down the road. He is on the cusp of some huge bouts, but losing his British Middleweight Championship would be a massive setback for Next Gen.
