WWE Intercontinental Champion, The Miz, got involved in the burgeoning debate surrounding stars from other sports crossing over to WWE. Conor McGregor’s comments about being able to ‘slap the head off’ the entire WWE roster, led to speculation, from a small minority, that he may be looking for a future WWE career. Whether there is any truth in this, or McGregor was just trying to drum up some interest in his next match, is open to debate. But it has sparked questions about other sports stars who may do well in sports entertainment.
The Miz was asked for his thoughts on this, by SportsNation hosts Michelle Beadle, Marcellus Wiley and LZ Granderson (as reported on ESPN.com). Judging by the depth of his answer, he’s clearly given it some consideration. And his choice was met with excited agreement by the hosts.
The sports star Miz picked was American football quarterback Tim Tebow. At 6’3”, and 245lbs, Tebow certainly seems like a good choice. He’d be in good company. There’s a long history of footballers turned wrestlers, Ron Simmons, Vader, Goldberg, Titus O’Neil, Roman Reigns and more recently Baron Corbin, are among those who have successfully made the transition.

It’s the insights Miz offered into how Tebow’s character would work which proved most interesting. Miz suggested that Tebow would excel as a heel. "He would be the greatest bad guy we've ever had.” Miz explained this is because, “In the world, he's a good guy -- he's so good. In the WWE, he would bad because he's so good. The WWE Universe likes bad boys."
Whether Miz gets his wish, and if McGregor ever tries to make the jump, remains to be seen. But the trend for sports star signings continues, with former Germany and Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese, and former NFL player Brennan Williams, two of the most recent acquisitions. In the WWE universe, nothing is outside the realms of possibility.
