It's been speculated before that one of the reasons WCW had to close its doors at the end of the Monday Night Wars was because they never had a true leader. They never had an identifiable boss.
Eric Bischoff appeared to be that man on television, but with all the creative control written into several top stars' contracts, there was no one man who had final say.
That's never been the case with the WWE. What chairman Vince McMahon says, goes, and that's never been up for debate.

He's been grooming his son-in-law Triple H to take over the day-to-day operations when he finally cannot any longer, but Vince still has the final say on everything to do with Raw and Smackdown.
However, for almost the first time ever, something out of character has been happening with the boss lately.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wresting Observer, Vince has not been backstage at Raw or Smackdown LIVE for the past two weeks. Furthermore, the chairman isn't expected to be at next week's shows and he's slated to miss SummerSlam.
There is no word on what the reason is behind Vince's unusual absences, but he's a well-known work-a-holic and has always worked through illness in the past.
Considering he will be 71-years-old at the end of this month, it's possible that Vince could have some health issues he's dealing with that he might not want to be brought to light for the sake of WWE's stock.
We hope that isn't the case and there is another explanation for his no-shows. It's said that Vince is still micro-managing the company down to the last detail over the phone - sounds like the old Vinnie Mac to us.
