It was a night to remember at the Rio Olympics as Usain Bolt won his third consecutive 100m gold medal, but the show was stolen by a lesser-known figure.

South African Wayde van Niekerk was the man of the moment as he smashed Michael Johnson's 17-year-old record in the 400m, running the lap in a stunning 43.03s.

Johnson's record was set way back in 1999, with the American registering a time of 43.18s, but that record has now been passed onto Van Niekerk, who won a share of admirers overnight due to his incredible performance.

One of his admirers is more famous than most, however, and that man is Bolt, who couldn't hide his shock when seeing the time the South African posted.

When speaking about Van Niekerk's record breaking run, Bolt was quick to admit he knew he could do it, stating he had the speed and the strength to do so.

Bolt went on and revealed how the South African was over in Jamaica and that's when he told him he could break the long-standing record.

The Jamaican sprinter then stated how proud he is of Van Niekerk, before making a joke at Johnson's expense for his record finally being broken.

However, a video has emerged of Bolt initially finding out about the 400m result and his reaction is absolutely priceless.

You can see Bolt's reaction in the video below.

Bolt is seen walking into the arena it seems and when he appears to find out about the result, he cannot hide his shock as his puts his hand to his mouth.

You know you've done something incredible when the great Usain Bolt can't even believe it's happened.
