Tony Mowbray has hailed West Brom striker Roman Bednar as the smiling assassin determined to prove he is Premier League quality.

Bednar, signed permanently from Hearts during the summer after a successful loan season at the Hawthorns, is one of the Baggies' dressing room and training ground jokers but Mowbray insists that masks a serious and focused individual.

Mowbray said: "Roman is a very focused individual. As a character he is a very happy go lucky sort of guy but, when it comes to football, he is very focused."

He added: "He wants to be a player. he wants to be a Premier League player, he wants to work hard and score goals.

"On the training ground, he is full of fun and enjoys coming into training. He is a joy to have around the club. He is humorous around the dressing room, a fun character to be around. But he wants to do well as a footballer."
