Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has denied claims by Thomas Sorensen that he prevented the Dane from signing for another Premier League club.

The former Villa goalkeeper, who is now at Stoke, told the Danish media O'Neill set out to "destroy" his career by blocking potential moves to Manchester City, Blackburn and Middlesbrough.

But O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail: "It is utter and complete fabrication. There wouldn't have been two managers that called me."

He added: "You have to ask yourself the question why didn't he go there? Thomas Sorensen is not 14 years of age, starting in the game. Thomas has had a career.

"You have to ask the question why didn't one of these teams take him?

"No football club in the Premier League asked me about Thomas Sorensen so I was unable to furnish them with any details. Therefore, there was nothing to talk about."
