There can be little doubting that the Bastian Schweinsteiger saga has been one of the biggest talking points at Old Trafford this summer.

Even with the captures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, the treatment of the German is never too far from the headlines. After all, a man who won the World Cup just two years ago is seemingly being exiled.

However, Manchester United fans have rallied in support for the 32-year-old after his latest Twitter post. In cheering on his teammates against Southampton, he has received prominent props from supporters.

Schweinsteiger’s inaugural campaign at Old Trafford certainly proved nondescript, but the reputation of the German is undoubted.

Despite having a Champions League and World Cup trophy in his back pocket, Jose Mourinho has snubbed the German since arriving in Manchester.

The seemingly unjustified and harsh treatment, that has seen him forced to train with the youth team, has caused something of an uproar. Albeit all the drama however, Schweinsteiger’s loyalty to the Red Devils hasn’t wavered.

In fact, the 32-year-old has been regularly seen wishing his colleagues good luck and generally singing United’s praise.

The latest such show of support was taken at last night’s Southampton game where Mourinho’s men emerged 2-0 victors.

Unsurprisingly, this has sparked the latest wave of backing from United supporters who are unhappy with the German’s treatment. Here are the pick of the tweets:

Even though the issue has caused friction between Mourinho and supporters, it appears unlikely that the Special One will change his mind. Whatever his reasons may be though, it certainly seems misjudged.

After all, although Marouane Fellaini is experiencing a renaissance in Manchester, does he really trump Schweinsteiger as a holding midfielder? It’s fair to say you’d struggle to make such an argument.
