Football News

Andre Gray should be celebrating tonight following his superb performance in Burnley’s surprise 2-0 win over Liverpool at Turf Moor, but the 25-year-old could find himself in deep trouble after a shocking tweet he published back in 2012 went viral.

Gray, who joined Burnley last year following a spell with Brentford, posted an awful homophobic tweet back on 9 January 2012.

It was always going to be spotted - particularly now he’s playing his trade in the Premier League - and it’s now come back to haunt him.

Brought to our attention by 101 Great Goals - and also published by the Mirror - the tweet from Gray reads: “Is it me or are there gays everywhere? #Burn #Die #MakesMeSick”.

Needless to say, this tweet has caused a huge stir on Twitter this evening.

Here's how Twitter has reacted...

What happens now?

First and foremost, it’ll be a huge shock if Gray doesn’t delete the tweet in question.

UPDATE: The tweet has now been deleted

But even if he does delete the tweet, or his account, questions are bound to be asked about the striker’s personal views.

Homophobia has no place in football - and Gray now has some explaining to do.
