Stephen Ireland denied 10-man Newcastle a precious victory with a late equaliser in 2-2 draw at St James' Park.

Richard Dunne's own goal looked to have handed the Magpies their first league win since August despite Habib Beye's early dismissal, after Shola Ameobi had cancelled out Robinho's 14th-minute penalty.

But Ireland struck with only four minutes remaining to snatch a point for the visitors, and he went close to collecting all three with seconds to go.
