Chelsea on their longest run without a home clean sheet since 1961

Chelsea's demise last season came down to a whole host of reasons, wth their ageing defence being just one issue.

Since Antonio Conte took over in the summer, things have been looking up, with maximum points in the first two Premier League games and now a 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers in the EFL trophy.

Despite the marked improvement since the Italian took over, close observers will spot that there is still one major issue at Stamford Bridge.

It's one that Conte will want to sort out as soon as possible, so it's no surprise that he's scouring the transfer market for defenders.

Although Chelsea progressed to the next round, they will be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet against the League One side.

And that's becoming a bit of a theme. Staggeringly, Chelsea now haven't kept a clean sheet at home for 13 games in all competitions.

Unwanted record

If that sounds unlike them, that's because it is. In fact, the Bristol Rovers game has set them an unwanted record - it's the longest they've gone without a clean sheet at the Bridge since August 1961, and that run lasted for 27 games, according to 101GreatGoals.

It's just as well they have Michy Batshuayi to bang the goals in at the other end, with their new striker netting a brace either side of a Victor Moses (yes, he's actually back at Chelsea) strike.

Either way, Conte has some serious work to do as his side won't be able to get away with defending like that when they come to face some of the Premier League's tougher opposition.
