The Headbangers are returning to the WWE

Following the WWE's brand split a month or so ago, SmackDown Live was clearly the weaker show when compared to Monday Night Raw.

Sure they may have gotten the WWE Champion in Dean Ambrose, as well as a part time John Cena, but the blue brand really needed some extra talent.

And it now looks like they are set to beef up their tag team division with the signing of some former WWE tag champions.

Glenn Ruth, better known as 'Thrasher' of the wrestling tag team 'The Headbangers', took to his personal Facebook page earlier this week to reveal that the former WWE tag team champions were making a return.

He stated: "This Tuesday night at 8pm tune into the USA network to see THE HEADBANGERS back in a WWE ring!! SmackDown live here we come!!!"

So it looks like the team of Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan have made their first real addition to the roster.

The Headbangers debuted in the WWF in 1996 and were mainstays on television throughout the late 90s. The team reunited in 2011 and have been appearing on the independent circuit ever since, taking bookings on the highways and byways.

It looks like they will be the eighth and final team in SmackDown Live's tag team championship tournament.

Naturally, American Alpha remain the favourites to become the first ever SmackDown tag champions.
