Gary Lineker sends tweet to N’Golo Kante after news of Chelsea’s David Luiz bid

Football News

Football fans are in complete shock from the news that Chelsea have submitted a £32 million bid for their former defender - if you can call him that - David Luiz.

This information has come courtesy of Sky Sports, who understand the Brazilian is keen on a return to Stamford Bridge following two years at Paris Saint-Germain.

The 29-year-old produced a dismal display in PSG’s 3-1 league defeat to Monaco on Sunday - French publication L'Equipe handed him an embarrassing, but entirely deserved, 2/10 rating - and he was subbed on the 62nd minute after conceding a ridiculous penalty.

Despite Luiz’s abysmal display, Antonio Conte is apparently keen to bring the player back to west London before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.

And amongst all the brilliant reaction on social media, it was Gary Lineker who produced one of the funniest tweets.

Lineker's tweet to Kante about Luiz

Tweeting directly to N’Golo Kante, who left Lineker’s beloved Leicester City this summer, the Match of the Day presenter wrote: “Rumours that @ChelseaFC have bid £30million for David Luiz. That'll test you @nglkante.”

Kante would have his work cut out if Luiz signs

For those who don’t quite understand, Lineker was joking that the indefatigable Kante will have his work cut out if Luiz becomes part of Chelsea’s starting line-up.

Discipline is not the Brazilian’s biggest asset - Gary Neville once famously described him as a footballer who “plays like he's being controlled by a 10-year-old on a PlayStation" - and Kante would have an even bigger job on his hands whether Luiz was deployed at centre-back or in central midfield.

It would be a shock if this deal happens

It would be a genuine surprise if Luiz, who cost PSG an astronomical £50 million in the summer of 2014, was re-signed by Chelsea.

But, no doubt to the immense relief of some fans, not every journalist is in agreement with Sky’s story.

“I hope I don't look silly on this tomorrow but I'm told David Luiz will not be returning to Chelsea,” the Telegraph’s Matt Law tweeted on Tuesday evening. “No bid made #cfc”.

Time will tell…
