The most dramatic transfer of deadline day was no doubt Moussa Sissoko’s move to Tottenham.
If you thought the move was a straightforward one, think again.
Moussa Sissoko has made it clear all summer that he wanted to leave Newcastle after their relegation to the Championship last season. But, with just hours remaining of the transfer window, Sissoko was still a Newcastle player.
After Everton bid £30 million for the Frenchman, it seemed as though the midfielder would be moving to Merseyside. However, with just one hour remaining, Spurs matched Everton’s bid and Sissoko made a dramatic U-turn.
Ronald Koeman and his side thought that Sissoko was on the verge of joining Goodison Park but, it seems Sissoko tried his best to back out of a potential move to Everton.
Sky Sports claimed that he refused to answer his phone to Koeman while there are also reports that he failed to turn up for a private jet that was supposed to take him to Everton’s training ground.
After Sissoko refused to answer his phone as Koeman attempted to confirm the arrangement for him to get on the plane, Everton decided they would withdraw their interest leaving Spurs free to sign him.
One thing is for sure, Sissoko will be glad that Spurs have already played away to Everton meaning he will be saved from any hostile atmosphere at Goodison Park this season.
While Everton fans were left fuming with Sissoko’s behaviour, Liverpool fans were left delighted. Their city rivals may not have made a signing on deadline day but couldn't help laugh at Everton's failure to get the Sissoko deal over the line.
Check out their reaction below:
Meanwhile, Newcastle fans seemed pretty ecstatic to get rid of the 'mercenary' player.
Newcastle supporters have seen Sissoko play for their club for the previous five seasons and have had to endure some very inconsistent displays from the 27-year-old.
While they’re not surprised by this disrespectful behaviour, they can’t quite believe their luck at receiving £30 million for him.
Meanwhile, with Everton missing out on Sissoko, they moved to complete the signing of Enner Valencia on a season-long loan.
