Two years after the WWE basically decided he was going to be the new face of the company, Roman Reigns is still hated by a large portion of fans.

The former enforcer of The Shield is booed by a chunk of the audience whenever his music hits during Monday Night Raw or at a pay-per-view, but hasn't really seen his push to the top dented too much.

And Vince McMahon and co. will have another reason to celebrate tonight, as Reigns was listed at the summit of the annual PWI Top 500 list earlier today.

Yep, according to PWI, Roman Reigns had the best year out of any wrestler in a major promotion across the world.

It is based fully in kayfabe, counting from June of 2015 to July this year. During that time, Reigns won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship three times, which has seen him do enough to reach the top of the list.

PWI themselves expect some backlash from their announcement.

"Our cover headline comes right out and states it: 'Half of You Will Hate This! Roman Reigns Is No. 1.' Reigns is certainly not the sexy choice, but based on what he accomplished during the time frame for evaluation, we think he's the right choice," publisher Stu Saks said.

Reigns himself was happy with the award.

"It's a great honor and it goes with a lot of hard work. It's very flattering," he said.

"It just shows that if you keep your head down and stick to your day-to-day, you grind it out and take the long road, good things happen. It's a great achievement and another great accolade."
