Carmelo Anthony caused some controversy over the summer when he said he would be 'happy' to retire without winning a championship ring.

Those quotes were taken out of context. The three-time gold medal winner is still hungry to lift the Larry O'Brien trophy before he hangs up his sneakers but insisted he would be content with his career if it never happened.

It's still a long shot but the New York Knicks find themselves in a much stronger position to challenge in the east than they were just three months ago.

Derrick Rose has been traded from the New York Knicks while Joakim Noah has joined in free agency. Courtney Lee and Brandon Jennings have also been added to give more depth to their roster, and confidence is certainly high inside the camp.

The only two bright sparks from last season, Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis remain and the duo have been working together to ensure they are on the same page once October rolls around.

The Latvian center surprised everyone in his rookie season and Anthony was keen to pass on as much knowledge as possible. Porzingis burnt out somewhat in his first NBA campaign but much is expected of the European star in his sophomore campaign.

Despite recently finishing his final Olympic campaign in Rio de Janeiro, Anthony is already preparing for next season and he has been working hard with Porzingis. The forward recently posted a picture of social media that all Knicks fans will love.

The Garden has an exciting team on its hand.
