Harry Kane destroyed on Twitter after Martin Skrtel elbow

It's been a difficult summer for Harry Kane.

Following a season where he scored 25 goals in the Premier League and steered Tottenham into the Champions League, the striker endured an awful Euro 2016 and since struggled to rediscover his goalscoring touch.

Indeed, three games into the new campaign and Kane is yet to find the back of the net.

His poor form was evident once again against Slovakia during Sunday night's 2018 World Cup qualifier, with a miskick from Kyle Walker's cross epitomising a diabolical first half.

He was soon destroyed on Twitter for something completely unrelated to his miss, though.

With just under half hour played, Kane was elbowed by Martin Skrtel and collapsed in a heap from the collision.

It was a naughty challenge from the former Liverpool centre-back, who received a yellow card, but it was Kane that received a torrent of abuse from football fans.

Kane was also ribbed for his display against Slovakia.

Ouch. Sam Allaryce opted to start Kane ahead of Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy in an attempt to help the Tottenham striker find form.

"I am hopeful Harry will get going," the former West Ham boss said, "but every player in a forward position it is about them trying to create and score goals.

"Every attacking-minded player has a responsibility to create, assist or score. It is not just down to one or two players.

"Harry Kane and everybody else on the front line... I hope when they get the chance they create a good enough opportunity to score against strong opposition."
