The qualification process for the 2018 World Cup is well underway now and the Republic of Ireland have kicked off their campaign with a potentially tough trip to Serbia.
There was a pitch inspection around an hour and a half before the game was scheduled to start because of the torrential rain in Belgrade on Monday evening.
That said, Martin O'Neill's side got off to an incredible start when they took the lead after just three minutes - however the man they should be thanking is Branislav Ivanovic.

Ireland's Jeff Hendrick chanced his arm with a speculative left-footed shot from the edge of the area, and while the strike may have been heading on target, Ivanovic's deflection is what took the ball into the back of the net.
As you can see in the video below, the Serbia captain had plenty of time to see and clear the ball, but he mistimed his attempted block and the ball whistled past 'keeper Predrag Rajkovic:

Things could get worse for Ivanovic
So, Ivanovic has had a mare with his country and things back at his club may be about to get a whole lot worse as well following Chelsea's deadline day signings.
It is believed that boss Antonio Conte brought David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge to help form his preferred back three. This means Ivanovic will be fighting for places with the likes of Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma and skipper John Terry.
What's more, the signing of left-back Marcos Alonso probably means that Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta will revert back to right-back - the position where Ivanovic has primarily operated from in recent seasons.
