As the summer transfer window slammed shut in the late hours of August 31, Premier League giants Chelsea welcomed back one of their former stars David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain.

He returns to west London after spending two years away, having left for £50 million to join the French champions, becoming the most expensive defender of all time.

Moving back to London for £34m, Luiz began training for the season ahead at Cobham just days ago and gave his first interview to the official club website upon his arrival.

Asked whether he was happy to join forces with Diego Costa, the Brazilian was quick to reply by saying: “Yes!”

The centre-back hailed the talent and commitment of the Spaniard, who he believes brings great dynamics to an already talented line-up at Chelsea.

Reminiscing about the times playing against the striker, Luiz added: “He [Costa] was an amazing player when I was playing against him. He is a guy who gives everything for your team and now I am on his side.”

The 29-year-old is of the opinion that Costa is a supremely skilled forward with a great passion for the game, and that is something that Luiz appreciates.

“I have a great striker for my team and with the spirit of love for football, with passion, so I am happy for that.”

Chelsea and PSG faced each other in the knockout stages of the Champions League during the 2014-15 season, where in the second-leg at Stamford Bridge, the duo had heated exchanges on more than one occasion.

Costa is known to be a menacing figure on the pitch, while his short-tempered mentality often results in landing the player in problematic situations.

New boss Antonio Conte will be aiming to mould the expertise of Luiz, as well as Diego, and channel their passion for the benefit of the club.

The South American international is determined to prove his worth under the Italian manager and he is willing to feature wherever Conte instructs him.

Meanwhile, Costa has been sublime in front of goal this term, scoring two late winners in three games, and will undoubtedly be hoping to continue that form throughout the campaign.

The former English champions travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea City on this weekend, which could see first outing for Luiz after his emotional move back to Chelsea.
