Dimitri Payet appeared to have wrapped up the assist of the season award - if only it existed, eh? - with his incredible rabona for West Ham against Watford on Saturday.

But Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge has given the Frenchman a serious run for his money with an exquisite back-heel for Sadio Mane’s goal against Leicester City this evening.

Sturridge played the ball into Mane’s path with a gorgeous touch - and it impressed many people on Twitter, including a certain Antoine Griezmann.

The Atletico Madrid star, who scored two goals in a 4-0 win over Celta Vigo earlier on Saturday, was watching the action back in Spain.

And shortly after Mane’s goal, the France international tweeted his appreciation for Sturridge’s assist.

Liverpool led 2-1 at the break

Liverpool produced some brilliant football inside the opening half-hour and Mane’s goal doubled the hosts’ advantage after Roberto Firmino’s earlier opener.

However, a mistake by Lucas, seven minutes before half-time, saw Jamie Vardy pounce to reduce the deficit to one goal.
