Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge returned to the Liverpool line-up against Leicester, but the Anfield faithful will have noticed one notable absentee as they welcomed the champions to Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp already had enough injury worries to be going on with.

Emre Can and Ragnar Klavan both sat out the clash, which already had the Reds boss scratching his head over his defence.

Dejan Lovren made matters worse by sustaining a nasty-looking eye injury in training on Friday, which for some reason, he felt the need to share with the world via his Instagram.

If the Croatian was left with a pretty ugly bruise, that was nothing compared to the hideousness of his replacement Lucas Leiva's defending.

With Liverpool cruising at 2-0, the Brazilian's horrorshow defending allowed Jamie Vardy to pounce and get Leicester back into the game.

Simon Mignolet played an innocuous ball out to Lucas, who then fumbled before trying to pass it back, straight into the path of the Foxes striker.

Klopp frustrated

Admittedly, he was playing out of position and is rarely played at the back, but Klopp will have been left frustrated nonetheless as he has had some pretty bad luck with injuries already this season.

Adam Lallana later made it 3-1 to take the heat off Liverpool's makeshift defence, but they still need to get back to full strength as soon as possible.

Lovren's injury shouldn't rule him out for too long, though, and he could even be back for next weekend's all-important trip to Chelsea if it clears up in time.
