Luka Modric produces stunning piece of skill vs Osasuna

Luka Modric has enjoyed a fine week.

The Real Madrid star celebrated his 31st birthday on Friday and there was more joy to be had on Saturday after Los Blancos thrashed Osasuna 5-2.

With a new contract also in the offing, it’s a pretty good time to be Modric.

The Croatian was among the goals as Zinedine Zidane’s team leaped to the top of La Liga in convincing style.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Danilo and Sergio Ramos gave the reigning European champions a three-goal lead at half-time and Pepe and Modric heaped yet more misery on Osasuna after the restart.

With three points already assured, Zidane won’t care too much about the two goals conceded by Kiko Casilla.

Playing alongside Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, Modric probably doesn’t get the recognition he deserves as one of the best midfielders of his generation.

The former Tottenham man oozes class. There are few more enjoyable players to watch on a weekly basis.

His goal was a thing of beauty, as was this exceptional piece of skill he performed to take two Osasuna players out of the game.

Ronaldo's return

Ronaldo made his first appearance of the season after an injury he sustained in the Euro 2016 final was needed only six minutes to score.

And Modric was absolutely delighted to see his teammate back in action.

"The fact that he's back means a lot to us," the Croatia star said, per Goal. “He's a great player and his presence and leadership out on the pitch are very important. I'm sure that with every game he plays, he'll get stronger.

"Today he got his name on the scoresheet and played very well. In my eyes, Cristiano is the best player in the world, although I don't like to compare and we should just enjoy watching him and [Lionel] Messi."
