Alberto Del Rio may have planned to leave WWE ages ago

There is no question that WWE have had some trouble with particular employees during the past year for a number of different reasons.

One of the names which has been consistently linked with such trouble is none other than Alberto Del Rio.

After previously being suspended for a wellness policy violation in August, it was revealed this week that Del Rio was to be released by the company.

Mind made up

With news of the 39-year-old's departure having been confirmed by WWE.com on Friday, the reports which followed may have been surprising to many members of the WWE Universe.

As NoDQ.com has confirmed, Del Rio will be making an appearance at What Culture Pro Wrestling on Thursday 15 September.

In addition, Wrestle Zone also revealed that the former WWE star will be part of the World Association of Wrestling promotion on both Friday 16 and Saturday 17 September.

Family business

A worthwhile note to make with regard to this wrestling company is that it is owned by Ricky Knight - who is the father of WWE star Paige, Del Rio's girlfriend.

Whether Del Rio knows anyone who runs either promotion personally or not however, it is interesting that he had these appearances lined up just a week after WWE announced his release.

Although nothing has been confirmed, it seems strange that these bookings would have been made so soon after Del Rio parted ways with the company.

With this in mind, it appears likely that the former World Heavyweight Champion had made a promise to himself at least that he would be leaving the WWE roster sooner rather than later.
