Since suffering an ankle injury in the final minutes of Chelsea's 2-2 draw over Swansea on Sunday, John Terry's injury status has been top of the agenda at Stamford Bridge.

And, on the back of ominous social media updates yesterday, today brought bad news for the west London club's fans after Chelsea confirmed their captain would be out for around 10 days with an ankle ligament issue.

Of course, with Terry ruled out, the setback all but confirms that David Luiz - fresh off his surprise £30 million deadline day return - will be stepping up to make his debut in Chelsea's Friday night fixture against Liverpool. A prospect a lot of fans at Anfield are relishing judging by their reaction on social media...

First, Chelsea's comment on Terry confirming he will not be taking part in this week's Friday night game.

"John Terry’s injury suffered in Sunday’s game at Swansea is strained ligaments in his foot," an official statement from the club read.

"He will be out for approximately 10 days. Our captain was injured in the closing minutes of the 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium. He completed the game in pain and Antonio Conte confirmed afterwards the problem would need medical assessment."

Terry himself sent out a message soon after.

Unless Antonio Conte springs a surprise, it will be David Luiz who is called upon to make his second debut for Chelsea against Liverpool in place of Terry.

And, given Jurgen Klopp's free-scoring form so far in the Premier League combined with Luiz' penchant for a lapse in concentration, a lot of fans on Merseyside aren't exactly quaking in their boots at the prospect.

Mind you, there are some pessimistic Liverpool fans who aren't ready to celebrate Luiz in the line up just yet.

Only time will tell just how much of an impact Luiz will have on Friday's game.

What is almost certain, though, is that there are bound to be one or two heart in the mouth moments involving the Brazilian. The question is, which set of fans will be the ones holding their breath?
