Liverpool loanee Danny Ward costs Huddersfield win with blunder against Brighton

Tuesday night in the Championship was an evening to forget for Liverpool's goalkeepers who were out on loan. While Adam Bogdan's horrendous blunder resulted in defeat for Wigan at Norwich, Danny Ward's error denied Huddersfield a point at Brighton.

The Wales international enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Scottish side Aberdeen, last season. However, despite being recalled by Liverpool midway through the campaign, Ward has subsequently been loaned out to high-flying Huddersfield.

Huddersfield's manager David Wagner made the most of his close friendship with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, allowing him to take Ward on loan. But Wagner will be hoping the 'keeper's mistake against Brighton will be one of very few this season - particularly due how costly the goal proved.

In fairness to the 23-year-old, Brighton winger Anthony Knockaert's shot took a slight deflection and deceived the 'keeper. However, as the video shows, the error looked rather ugly from behind the goal.

But luckily for the Terriers, their 1-0 defeat did not damage their position at the top of the Championship - despite being tipped by some, most notably former Watford striker Chris Iwelumo, for the drop this campaign.

The error didn't go under the Reds' fans radar, though, with fellow loanee Bogdan already having made a major mistake on the evening.

Luckily for Ward, Liverpool are hopeful that he can have a long and successful career at Anfield, while Bogdan's mistake has done him no favours if he is wanting a long-term future with the Reds.

Needless to say, despite first choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet's critics last season, they would sooner have the Belgian in between the sticks at this moment in time.

Brendan Rodgers has been criticised for his decision to bring Bogdan in from Bolton Wanderers, but there have been no complaints about Ward, so far, who arrived from Wrexham in 2012.

Liverpool fans can only hope Ward's error at the AMEX Stadium on Tuesday night was an uncharacteristic error.
