After an underwhelming performance led to a surprise 1-0 defeat away to Feyenoord last night, the Manchester United squad must have thought their night couldn't get much worse as they began their route back home.
For one unnamed member of the team, however, things almost did.
That's after a Rotterdam police officer appeared to reveal that, after an unusual series of events, one player came very close to missing the scheduled return flight to Manchester.
According to the account, via Goal, the Rotterdam authorities had to be roped in after the anonymous United player was apparently delayed back at Feyenoord's De Kuip stadium.
"End of service," the Rotterdam officer tweeted on Thursday evening. "One player from [Manchester United] narrowly put on the plane. He could not pee at doping control."
It looks like the player was only able to get to the plane in time thanks to the driving skills of the Rotterdam police.
Whilst his inability to provide a urine sample isn't something that Jose Mourinho could discipline him for - as is often the case for players missing flights etc - having to delay his return home because of it would have been the icing on the cake of a very frustrating evening for everyone involved at the club.
In fact, there will probably be plenty of United fans out there who, after watching the team's lacklustre performance against Feyenoord, would argue there was absolutely no chance any players were using any performance enhancing substances.
Last night's events capped a frustrating week for the Old Trafford club. Before their 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, there was a wave of optimism around the club after a strong start to the season.
Now, though, Mourinho's side have lost two straight and he will be desperate to get things back on track as soon as possible.
Their first chance to do that comes versus Watford on Sunday afternoon.
The Daily Mail's Chris Wheeler has now revealed the United player who nearly missed the flight was Chris Smalling...
