Despite WWE Backlash only being a week old, SmackDown LIVE are already turning their attentions to their next branded pay-per-view No Mercy.

The PPV will take place October 9, and plans are already falling into place in terms of the card.

AJ Styles will defend his title against John Cena and Dean Ambrose in a triple threat match. Becky Lynch will defend her gold against Alexa Bliss, whilst it's expected that Heath Slater and Rhyno will defend their Tag Team Championships against The Usos.

One other match that is looking more and more likely to happen is a rematch from Backlash, with The Miz defending his Intercontinental Championship against Dolph Ziggler.

The two put on probably the match of the night at Backlash, and it looks like they are going to go toe-to-toe once again, but this time, in a steel cage match.

At Backlash, the match ended with Maryse spraying something into the eyes of Ziggler, allowing Miz to pick up the victory, but on this week's SmackDown LIVE, The Showoff was hinting about facing the IC Champion once again, but this time, with no interference.

Of course, general manager Daniel Bryan could just make it so Maryse cannot be at ringside or cannot interfere in the match, but they could also put the two inside a steel cage, which is reportedly being discussed.

According to NoDQ, the current plan is to have the two meet inside a steel cage, but with like anything in WWE, those plans could change from now until No Mercy.

WWE haven't done a steel cage match since December 2015, when Sheamus went up against Ambrose on Monday Night Raw.
