Franck Ribery scores superb solo goal for Bayern Munich v Hertha Berlin

Football News

It was revealed on Tuesday that Franck Ribery would have won the Ballon d’Or award in 2013 instead of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo if only votes from journalists counted.

From 2017 onwards, national team coaches and captains will lose their votes for world football’s most prestigious individual accolade.

Unfortunately, Ribery, now 33, is now unlikely to land his hands on the Ballon d’Or - but he might stand an outside chance of winning the Puskas award, handed to the best goal scored during each calendar year, for this superb effort for Bayern Munich against Hertha Berlin this evening.

Okay, so maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but it was a terrific solo goal by the Frenchman.

David Alaba picked out Ribery inside the penalty area and the veteran winger did the rest.

He sold one Hertha defender with a sublime turn, then left another with twisted blood before slotting past goalkeeper Rune Jarstein.

Ribery held out his hand, inviting Alaba to slap it, as is to say that goal was naughty.

And it was.

He also did the dab, which not many 33-year-olds can get away with.
