Arsenal fans troll Jamie Vardy for being substituted at Man United

It was a day to forget all round for Claudio Ranieri's men at Old Trafford as they were on the wrong end of a 4-1 thumping at the hands of a resurgent Manchester United side on Saturday.

First-half goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba had virtually sealed the three points with barely 42 minutes played.

During the interval, Ranieri made the decision to cut his losses and brought off key men Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to rest them ahead of Tuesday night's Champions League tie with Porto.

Neither of last season's stars were able to make any significant impact against Man United's back four and as a result, Ranieri was probably wise to avoid the risk of injury by substituting the duo.

Nevertheless, Vardy, in particular, was ridiculed on Twitter by Arsenal fans still holding a grudge for his snub in the summer.

The England striker was given the opportunity to move to north London after Arsene Wenger activated his release clause in June but chose to extend his contract at the champions.

Football fans have long memories so of course, once Vardy didn't reappear in the second half Arsenal fans went into full troll mode.

Here are some of the best tweets:

It took Ranieri's title winners until February to lose three Premier League matches last term but Saturday's defeat was the Foxes' third of the season with just six games played.

The burden of being the champions, combined with the added pressure of playing in the Champions League, has already taken some effect but any more performances like the one at Old Trafford and Vardy and co. can expect a very tricky campaign indeed.
