It is no exaggeration to say that Anthony Davis is the shining light of the New Orleans Pelicans organisation.

After he went down with season-ending surgery last term, any hopes of the Pelicans enjoying the post season went down with him.

However, the 2016-17 campaign represents another opportunity for the power forward to show the world he can fulfill the undoubted potential that he has.

Now that training camp has started for virtually the entire NBA, Pelicans fans have a reason to get excited once more.

Davis, 23, told Justin Verrier of ESPN he felt "amazing" after participating in virtually every part of the morning session of the New Orleans Pelicans' first two-a-day practice.

The Brow had an ultrasonic debridement of his left knee last spring and this was the first time he was able to truly exert himself since.

“It felt amazing to be back on the floor with these guys,” he said. “It’s been a while. I think we had a great first day. I’ve got to learn how to slow down a little bit; we’re playing really fast right now. But I like where we’re at right now.”

The Pelicans had a disappointing finish last term, but this summer they have retooled with Buddy Hield in the draft and Lance Stephenson, among others, has arrived at the Smoothie King Center
