Borussia Dortmund versus Real Madrid is undoubtedly the standout fixture of this week’s Champions League matches.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been in superb form of late, scoring 20 goals in their previous four fixtures, and will fancy their chances of getting a result against Los Blancos at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund warmed up for the match with a 3-1 win over Freiburg, but Real Madrid failed to secure all three points for the second successive La Liga fixture.

Zinedine Zidane’s men followed up last week’s 1-1 draw against Villarreal with another disappointing draw: this time against Las Palmas in Gran Canaria.

Karim Benzema made it 2-1 to the visitors in the 67th minute and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Dortmund match in mind, was controversially subbed off by Zidane five minutes later.

However, Madrid chucked away two valuable points when Sergio Araujo equalised for the Canary Islanders in the closing stages of the match.

Dortmund's dig at Real Madrid

The people behind Dortmund’s official Twitter account couldn’t resist having a cheeky dig at their next opponents.

Responding to Madrid’s full-time update, Dortmund sent a tweet to the Spanish giants saying: “You're having a hard time playing teams that wear yellow, do you @realmadriden? 😉”.

Real Madrid weren’t willing to play ball with a response - although it’s possible that they’re saving one for after Tuesday’s match.

Sporting Lisbon got in on the act

One club who did respond to the tweet, however, was Sporting Lisbon.

“.@BVB @realmadriden and green as well! 😎” the Portuguese club tweeted. ”Best of luck to you both!”

A Real Madrid fan responded: @Sporting_CP @BVB @realmadriden how many champions league do you have both of you ?! 😏😏”

To which Sporting replied: “.@DrMadridista92 @BVB we have 0 Champions league, but 24 European titles. We invite you to know our history at”.

Sporting almost gave Madrid a shock

Sporting were beaten 2-1 by Real Madrid at the Bernabeu earlier this month, although Zidane’s men only managed to win by the skin of their teeth.

Bruno Cesar gave the visitors a shock lead early in the second half, but two goals in the final five minutes of the match by Cristiano Ronaldo - who else? - and Alvaro Morata secured the victory for the home side.
