It feels like forever since the last Premier League match.

It actually took place on January 23 as Chelsea beat Tottenham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

With the FA Cup fourth round largely taking place this weekend, Burnley vs Watford is the only match where we can get our Premier League fix.

But this winter break presents the perfect opportunity to look back at what has happened so far.

Manchester City look to be set to retain their Premier League title but there is an almighty race for a top-four spot.

At the other end of the table, it currently looks as though four clubs are in a possible relegation battle with Burnley, Watford, Newcastle and Norwich all down there.

And that end of the table is where we’re going to stay because we want to, rather harshly, look at the worst Premier League XI of the season so far.

Using WhoScored ratings, we’ve identified the worst player in each position so far during the 2021/22 campaign. Players must have started at least five matches.

So, what is the worst XI of the season so far?

Let’s take a look:

GK: Tim Krul (Norwich) – 6.43

Krul has conceded 38 goals so far this season and his save percentage of 65.3% is the sixth-worst in the division.

RB: Mads Roerslev (Brentford) – 6.36

Earlier in January, Roerslev grabbed a goal and an assist as Brentford beat Aston Villa 2-1. That’s not good enough to bail him out of this XI.

CB: Ciaran Clark (Newcastle) – 6.24

Following his stupid ninth-minute red card against Norwich in November, Clark has only started once. He surely doesn’t have a long-term future at big-spending Newcastle.

CB: William Troost-Ekong (Watford) – 6.28

Captain of Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations but Troost-Ekong will be looking to improve under new manager, Roy Hodgson.

LB: Romain Perraud (Southampton) – 6.38

Perraud signed for £10 million in the summer and was signed for his attacking prowess. He’s yet to register an assist or score.

CM: Adam Forshaw (Leeds) – 6.38

Forshaw had a spell of playing in November and December of playing 90 minutes in six consecutive matches. Marcelo Bielsa probably likes his ability to run about, rather than anything technical.

CM: Shandon Baptiste (Brentford) – 6.32

Baptiste was signed from Oxford a couple of years ago and has featured in 17 Premier League games this season.

AM: Ryan Fraser (Newcastle) – 6.27

Statistically the worst player in the Premier League this season. Fraser has played 19 games is yet to score and has registered just one assist.

AM: Josh Sargent (Norwich) – 6.34

It feels harsh including a player who scored twice against Watford in this XI. But Sargent previously went 17 shots without getting one on target.

AM: Tyler Roberts (Leeds) – 6.38

Roberts has missed just three Premier League games for Leeds this season. Like Forshaw, he runs around a lot but has just one goal and one assist.

CF: Timo Werner (Chelsea) – 6.31

“Sometimes even I don’t know why they are supporting me so much,” Werner said recently.

After one goal in 16 Premier League appearances, we’re not sure either, Timo…
