Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are two of the greatest that boxing has ever seen.

While the former is known for his domination in an era wherein boxing was much more competitive, Mayweather is acknowledged for his pragmatic approach combined with an elite mentality that has led to his 50-0 record.

Back in 2013, when Mayweather didn’t exactly have the stature he has now, his relationship with Tyson was not exactly the best either. However, in an interview given back then, Mayweather went all-in on his praise for Tyson and you just love to hear his defence.

Speaking to Fox, Mayweather was responding to Tyson’s claim that boxing was a sport under threat with the former being the only ray of hope.

He said: “Well, I commend Tyson because he’s one of the guys that paved the way for me to be where I’m at.

“He’s a legendary champion and the only thing I have to say about Mike Tyson is – everyone is always trying to judge Mike Tyson.

“He’s lived his life the way he’s wanted to live his life.

“No-one can say what they would have done if they were in his shoes.”

Mayweather also made a pretty accurate prediction about boxing at the time, stating clearly that the sport will live despite the meteoric rise of MMA and UFC in the Conor McGregor era.

“Boxing will live on,” he said.

“It’s the Mayweather era, not just myself but the Mayweather brand.

“I have my own style and what I made cool about boxing is not taking punishment.”
