Transfer insider Dean Jones doesn't think that Steve Bruce has become West Brom manager for the long term.

Just 27 hours after Valerien Ismael was sacked, the 61-year-old was appointed on an 18-month deal.

What's the latest news involving Bruce?

Bruce has been out of management since he was sacked at Newcastle and replaced by Eddie Howe in October.

However, following Ismael's departure, after West Brom's wretched run of form, Bruce emerged as the frontrunner for the job.

And after having successful talks with the Baggies hierarchy, they offered him a return to management.

Having been relegated from the Premier League last season, West Brom were expected to challenge for automatic promotion but slipped eight points behind the top-two after losing at Millwall on Saturday and are now only inside the top-six on goal difference.

West Brom have 17 games left in the season to ensure they get enough points to at least qualify for the play-offs, but Jones doesn't expect the former Sunderland and Newcastle boss to be in the job long term.

What did Jones say about Bruce?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I don't think they see it as a long term appointment. I think they see it as somebody to come in and just sort things out for the immediate future."

His Bruce a good appointment?

His Aston Villa and Birmingham connections could make for a frosty reception, but his arrival should only improve West Brom's chances of finishing in the top-six or even pushing to the automatic places.

Bruce's recent managerial memories were mainly forgetful ones with Newcastle, but at Championship level, he's been one of the best in the business over the years.

He guided both Birmingham and Hull to the Premier League on two separate occasions and also managed Aston Villa to the play-off final in 2018 before losing to Fulham in the final.

Therefore, with four promotions on his CV, West Brom could have done a lot worse.
