Wolverhampton Wanderers' lack of firepower could severely hamper their chances of securing European football for next season, according to the Daily Mail's chief football reporter Sami Mokbel.

The West Midlands club have quietly climbed the Premier League table and are in contention to break into the Premier League's top six.

What's the latest news involving Wolves?

Bruno Lage took over as Wolves' head coach last summer, replacing the departed Nuno Espirito Santo, and he has guided the club to a series of impressive results.

Just last month, a late Joao Moutinho strike allowed Wolves to clinch their first victory at Manchester United's Old Trafford home in close to 42 years.

That eye-catching result has allowed the Molineux-based outfit to go on a run of three consecutive victories in the Premier League.

Lage dipped into the transfer market to bolster his options out wide by drafting in Estoril youngster Chiquinho for an initial fee of £3million.

However, Wolves fans have already been urged to be patient by technical director Scott Sellars while the 21-year-old adapts to life in the West Midlands.

Hwang Hee-chan's season-long loan from RB Leipzig is set to be made permanent at the end of the season after already striking an agreement with the Bundesliga side.

Although Wolves parted with £1million to sign striker Jeong Sang-bin from Suwon Samsang, the 19-year-old has been loaned out to Swiss side Grasshoppers.

What has Sami Mokbel said about Wolves?

Mokbel believes Lage deserves praise for how he has made an impact since heading into the Molineux dugout.

However, he feels Wolves' lack of a clinical edge in the final third of the pitch could come back to haunt them as they look to break into the European qualification spots.

Mokbel told GIVEMESPORT: "I think they're ticking along really nicely, but I think the problem for Wolves is the goals.

"They're certainly in the top half but they've only scored 19 goals this season, which is not a lot."

Why is it such a big problem for Lage?

Wolves have climbed up to eighth place in the standings and find themselves just four points adrift of the Champions League qualification places.

However, only strugglers Burnley and Norwich City have been less prolific in front of goal, with Lage's side finding the back of the net just 19 times in the Premier League.

Raul Jimenez and Hwang have been Wolves' top scorers in the competition, racking up four goals apiece.

If Wolves fail to become more clinical in front of goal, that could have a serious impact on their ability to climb into the European spots.

They also lost Adama Traore to Barcelona last month, with him heading back to his homeland on an initial loan deal which has the option of being made permanent for £29million, so his lightning quick pace is also not an option now.

With the window shutting earlier this week, Lage has no option but to trust the charges currently at his disposal at Molineux.
