Isaac Hayden is attracting interest from Russia after being left out of Newcastle United's 25-man squad for the remainder of the season, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Hayden is currently on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery before the turn of the year and he will not appear for the Magpies before the campaign reaches its climax.

What's the latest news involving Hayden?

Hayden - along with defenders Ciaran Clark and Jamal Lewis - has been left out of Newcastle's Premier League squad for the second half of the season.

The long-term knee injury Hayden sustained has been listed as the reason for his omission from head coach Eddie Howe's plans.

But that has not stopped Hayden, 26, taking to social media to reveal he is 'bitterly disappointed' to have been overlooked and he has also admitted he will be 'working harder than ever' to ensure he is back in Howe's thinking ahead of next season.

Hayden had been a regular starter prior to Howe's November appointment, with the midfielder missing just 135 minutes of Premier League action under former boss Steve Bruce this season.

But the £9million-rated ace's minutes have dried up since the alteration in the dugout, with him only being afforded two starts under the current regime.

Hayden, who has made 171 appearances since joining Newcastle from Premier League rivals Arsenal in 2016, still has four-and-a-half years remaining on his £41,000-per-week contract at St James' Park.

What has Dean Jones said about Hayden?

Jones understands Hayden's omission from Newcastle's plans for the rest of the season has put clubs on red alert.

The transfer window may have closed in England earlier this week, but it still remains open in various other countries.

One of those nations where clubs are still able to do business is Russia and Jones has revealed Hayden is on the radar of one of their clubs.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: "I'm hearing that Isaac Hayden actually has some interest from a club in Russia, so that could be one to look out for."

Is this the beginning of the end for Hayden at Newcastle?

Newcastle became the richest club in world football when the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund completed a £305million takeover in October.

As a result, Howe was able to splash the cash in the January transfer window and the club parted with more than £91million.

Among the arrivals was Bruno Guimaraes, from French side Lyon, for a fee which could rise to £40million.

As a result, the defensive midfielder is among the most expensive signings in Newcastle's history and it will be difficult for the 6 ft 2 Hayden to reclaim his spot in the team at Guimaraes' expense next season.
