Middlesbrough Football Club enjoyed one of their finest nights in recent memory on Friday.

The Championship side travelled to Old Trafford for their fourth-round FA Cup tie and beat Manchester United in a penalty shootout.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring in the first half, before an unlikely equaliser by Matt Crooks in the second period took the game to extra-time.

United were unable to make the most of their dominance in the 120 minutes of play and the game went to penalties, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes guilty of missing a number of chances.

Both players scored in the shootout, but Anthony Elanga's miss from the Red Devils' eighth penalty attempt saw Boro progress to the next stage against all the odds.

It really was quite something and the away fans who travelled to Old Trafford were unsurprisingly going bonkers both inside and outside the stadium.

But it seems one Boro fan took things a little too far with their celebrations and ended up being arrested by Greater Manchester Police for 'child neglect'.

A statement from GMP Stretford's official Twitter account reads: "'Boro away fan arrested for child neglect last night, after choosing to leave his 11yr child in the hotel after the game whilst he went into town celebrating their victory drinking. We have looked after the child with an unhappy mum on her way down from N/East to collect him."

Well, you don't hear that after every football match...

We, of course, hope the child in question is safe and that they were able to enjoy the majority of Boro's famous victory.

United's defeat on Friday certainly opens up the 2021/22 FA Cup, with Arsenal already exiting the competition at the third-round stage.

Will any other big hitters join them in being eliminated this weekend? We shall see.
