Katie Taylor’s blockbuster fight against Amanda Serrano has reportedly become the second highest selling pre-sale boxing event in Madison Square Garden history. The long-awaited fight was confirmed yesterday, with the pair set to meet at New York’s iconic venue on April 30th.Taylor and Serrano will become the first women to headline Madison Square Gardens, and the event appears to be attracting a lot of attention.According to Jake Paul, who signed Serrano to Most Valuable Promotions in September, the fight had the second-highest grossing boxing presale in the venue's 140-year history.“Hell yeah,” Paul wrote on Twitter. “Congrats ladies.” Eddie Hearn, who promotes Taylor, also described the presale as “huge”.The fight is now on general sale, and it remains to be seen whether the event continues to break records.Taylor, Ireland’s undisputed lightweight world champion, will put all her belts and her 20-match undefeated record on the line against Serrano. The 35-year-old retained her titles in her last fight after defeating Firuza Sharipova on points in December.Seven-weight world champion Serrano overcame Spain’s Miriam Gutierrez in Florida in December. The 33-year-old also earned wins over Daniela Romina Bermudez and Yamileth Mercado in 2021.

Taylor and Serrano were originally due to fight in May 2020, but clash was called off as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the bout touted as the “biggest fight ever in women’s boxing”, Paul has claimed both fighters will be earning “seven-figures”.

“They’re getting paid in the seven figures, which is historic," Paul told the MMA Hour. "It’s never happened for women, guaranteed seven figures, plus pay-per-view. Obviously it’s going to be a massive pay-per-view.

"This is life-changing for both girls and especially I know for Amanda Serrano, because I’ve heard her stories of how much she’s been getting paid since day one.

"That’s what initially sparked my desire to want to help her. How is (a seven-division champion) — getting paid, like, $20,000 [£14,800]? This is absurd.”

Taylor has pledged to ensure the fight matches up to expectations.

“Amanda is very talented but there’s nothing that worries me, I’ll be prepared for whatever comes my way on fight night,” she said.

“I believe this fight will live up to being the best in women’s boxing history, I’ve not been this excited for a long time. I have a winning mentality and I’ll do whatever it takes to win, this is about legacy.”
