Barcelona's Jordi Alba scored a stunning volley against Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Sunday.

Minutes after Barcelona had fallen behind through Yannick Carrasco's goal, Alba levelled the scores with a truly outrageous effort from Dani Alves' cross.

The Spaniard made perfect contact with the ball to send it looping over Jan Oblak and into the far corner.

Alba isn't known for scoring but we're so, so glad he decided to take this one on.

It was a thing of beauty.

Replays showed that Alba didn't catch the ball 100% cleanly, but that didn't stop the ball flying into the back of the net.

Jordi Alba scores vs Atletico Madrid

Alba got Xavi's side back on level terms after they had fallen behind to Atleti as both sides tussle over fourth place in the Spanish league.

And things quickly got even better for the hosts. Adama Traore, making his debut after joining from Wolves last month, crossed for Gavi to make it 2-1 in the 21st minute.

And Ronald Araujo added a third as Barcelona went into half-time with a 3-1 lead.

Ahead of the game, Atleti boss Diego Simeone stoked the flames by hitting out at Xavi.

"I remember Xavi saying in 2016 on (Spanish television programme) Universo Valdano that Atletico Madrid's style wasn't a style for big teams," Simeone said, per ESPN.

"Now he will have the opportunity - with all these new players arriving, he has eight now for three positions (in attack) - he will be able to deploy the team that he wants, that he imagines, what he grew up with at Barcelona.

"And we will try to take the game where we can hurt them."
