Let’s check out some of the reaction from social media:

What cameras do La Liga use to broadcast this footage?

Now, there’s a suggestion that this footage was recorded with an ‘8k camera’ - but this isn’t accurate.

The camera used is, in fact, a lightweight, mirrorless camera that’s been paired with a 35mm lens capable of delivering a very shallow depth of field.

When the camera operator focuses on the player or a group of players, the background goes blurry.

If you’ve ever used the ‘portrait mode’ on your mobile phone, you’ll be familiar with the blurred background effect.

The camera is connected to the live broadcast via a wireless link and the outcome is that viewers are left feeling closer to the action.

La Liga first introduced this technology during the 2020-21 season and it’s clearly very popular with viewers.

“At LaLiga, we are constantly researching cutting-edge innovations and technological solutions that allow us to offer the best audiovisual product. To this end, we will continue developing and fine-tuning this new system to enhance the visual experience for our fans,” Melcior Soler, Director of LaLiga’s Audiovisual Department, said when the technology was announced.

The Premier League and other leagues across Europe might need to up their game.
