It's been an incredible few years for Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy who, last night, became a penalty shoot-out hero in Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations triumph over Egypt. Ending Senegal's 65-year wait for a trophy at the tournament, the goalkeeper was largely untroubled during the match but produced a stunning save, getting two hands to Mohanad Lasheen's penalty to give the west African side the advantage in the shoot-out. Sadio Mane then stepped up to successfully take the decisive spot-kick and secured the win for his country. But it's been a whirlwind of a year for Mendy, who has gone on to achieve several honours, which many players could have only dreamt of. Since joining Chelsea in 2019 from Stade Reims, Thomas Tuchel's first-choice goalkeeper has helped the Blues to win both the 2020/21 Champions League and the 2021/22 UEFA Super Cup.But he'll now add another piece of silverware to his trophy cabinet and it looked as though he couldn't wait to celebrate the win. While footballers often have a set of media obligations to perform after a game, the 29-year-old, who was understandably eager to celebrate with his teammates, hilariously appeared to duck out of a post-match interview just as the reporter was about to ask him another question. Mendy, who was the saviour for Senegal, was asked by the reporter about what he felt about the penalty shoot-out. "The shooters, they did really well," the Chelsea No.16 replied. "I tried to give my best to save one shot, and I did, so I'm super happy."Chelsea DOMINATE Tottenham in London Derby! Full reaction on The Football Terrace...

But before the reporter could ask him another question, Mendy raised a big thumbs up to the camera and ran off out of shot, much to the hilarity of the commentary team back in the studio.

A man of few words, it appears.

Mendy was later seen in a video celebrating in the changing room with his teammates and perhaps this is where he ran off to...

Twitter users have been reacting to the video online, with some musing that Mendy had to catch a flight to help Chelsea win their upcoming Club World Cup semi-final match against Al-Hilal this Wednesday.

Taking stock of the honours Mendy has claimed in the last year, there is no doubt that he is up there as currently one of the best shot-stoppers in world football.
