Leicester City latest news: Fresh claim emerges on Brendan Rodgers' future

Leicester City have to be ‘very cautious’ when it comes to deciding the future of under-pressure manager Brendan Rodgers, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Foxes have endured an underwhelming campaign so far, crashing out of the Carabao Cup, Europa League and FA Cup already while sitting in midtable in the Premier League.

What is the latest news involving Leicester?

Rodgers arrived at the King Power Stadium back in February 2019 following a highly successful two-and-a-half-year stint in charge of Scottish giants Celtic.

During his time in the Leicester dugout, the 49-year-old has largely continued to excel, guiding the club to a maiden FA Cup triumph, consecutive fifth-place finishes and to the Community Shield crown.

However, Leicester’s progress has stagnated this season, despite a busy summer transfer window that saw the likes of Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Jannik Vestergaard bolster their ranks.

With 20 top-flight fixtures played, though, the Midlands outfit have collected just 26 points after losing more games than they’ve won, all but ending their hopes of qualifying for Europe once again.

And things went from bad to worse last time out when local rivals Nottingham Forest thrashed them 4-1 to kill their chances of retaining the FA Cup.

What has Jones said about Rodgers?

According to The Express, that result means Rodgers is now under ‘massive pressure’ yet Jones has urged some caution over the situation, stating the Northern Irish tactician is ‘one of the best coaches in European football’.

He told GiveMeSport: “From a Leicester point of view, where’s the next step here? You do have to be very cautious about where you go from an appointment like that because right now, you genuinely have one of the best coaches in European football.

“But I understand when results do wobble, especially results like the Forest hammering, you start to worry, but it’s the foundations that then get rocked and the players that then consider leaving on the back of the manager leaving and things can quickly fall apart. We see it so many times.”

Should Leicester sack Rodgers?

Leicester were largely meandering following their magnificent title victory in 2015/16, recording finishes of 9th, 9th and 12th in the three subsequent seasons.

Nevertheless, despite only having the 12th-highest net spend in the Premier League over the last five years prior to the January transfer window, Rodgers has still managed to propel the Foxes into the upper echelons of the division once again.

Breaking up the ‘Big Six’, claiming some major silverware and playing in a continental competition are achievements that surely buy Rodgers some time to turn things around at Leicester.
