Final Fantasy XIV: MMORPG Huge Factor in Square Enix’s Success

Final Fantasy XIV

Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy XIV has been a huge reason for their financial success recently.

The release of their quarterly report showed that 22% of their overall earnings have come from sales of the game.

Final Fantasy’s Expansion Shadowbringers was a huge success seeing a number of people flocking over to FFXIV from several different MMO’s; one of which was World of Warcraft (WoW) with one of its biggest and most followed streamers Asmongold coming to FFXIV.

With Asmongold coming to Final Fantasy, it saw a huge amount of his fanbase trying out the game which meant that a large number of subscriptions were being bought. This in turn made the servers for the game struggle, as they couldn’t handle the influx of people.

Final Fantasy XIV Still a Huge Success

It was recently reported that in Square Enix third-quarter financial results increased by 22% to 50.1 Billion Yen.

The company cited that strong sales of the latest expansion packages are the main reason, in addition to this, an increase of players subscribing to the game, sales of in-game characters and in-house content being sold.

Sales for FFXIV were 211,622 million Yen, which was a 4% increase from the previous year. Operating income was also 49,425 million yen, which was an increase of 17.1% from the previous year.

This means that thanks to Shadowbringers and the sales of Endwalker, the game has been able to continue to grow into a global phenomenon.

What is the future of Final Fantasy XIV?

With Endwalker being the final instalment for the ten-year-old story that started way back in 2013, many fans are wondering what will be next for the game.

Some fans thought that the game could come to an end, whilst others believed that the game would continue but with an entirely different story.

Well on the 18th February 2022, fans questions will be answered with a Liveletter from the producers, during which they will discuss the future of the game including the next ten years to follow, which should put many fans minds at rest.

It is likely that the story will come to an end with a whole new story starting up, similar to what World of Warcraft has done in the past with each expansion having its own differentiations to the lore.
