According to journalist Dean Jones, West Ham United’s hierarchy have made an ‘absolute promise’ to manager David Moyes over the summer transfer window.

The Hammers endured a frustrating January, failing to add any new additions to their first-team squad despite their injury issues in the first half of the season.

What is the latest news involving West Ham?

West Ham were largely expected to improve their side last month after losing first-choice centre-back Angelo Ogbonna for the rest of the campaign due to an ACL problem.

Sebastien Haller’s exit over a year ago has also left Michail Antonio as the only recognised striker ever since, yet attacking reinforcements failed to arrive for the third consecutive window.

According to The Independent, Moyes charges saw a club-record £60 million bid turned down for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez on Deadline Day, while the player would also prefer to move to a Champions League club.

Interest in Leeds United duo Klavin Phillips and Raphinha also failed to result in any intriguing arrivals in east London, surely leaving many of the club’s supporters feeling frustrated.

West Ham spent around £67m last summer bringing in the likes of Kurt Zouma and Nikola Vlasic, but further signings are likely to be needed for them to close the gap on the Premier League’s top teams.

What has Jones said about West Ham?

Under Moyes’ tutelage, the capital club finished in a remarkable sixth position in the top-flight standings last term.

And they’ve maintained that good form in the current campaign, advancing to the knockout stages of the Europa League and the fifth round of the FA Cup while sitting in fifth place in the Premier League.

As a result, Jones has revealed the West Ham hierarchy have assured Moyes that they will ‘attack the market properly’ when the window re-opens.

He told GiveMeSport: “And then I think, from what I understand, that there's an absolute promise that in the summer, they attack the market properly and they really do give him (Moyes) what he wants, and they work closely together to make sure it happens.”

Who could West Ham sign?

West Ham were linked to a plethora of centre-backs last month, including Fenerbahce’s Attila Szalai, who also reportedly caught the attention of Newcastle United and AC Milan.

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone – who is set to become a free agent following the conclusion of 2021/22 – is another player believed to be on Moyes’ radar.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender William Saliba is believed to be another potential target following a successful loan spell at Marseille.
